On this, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception (what is that again?), it is fitting to have a little fun in playing a game about Mary. For each right answer, your team gets a point or a prize (a Hersey's Hugs or candy cane or something).
1. Was Mary baptized/confirmed? If so, where and when? If not, why not?
2. Was John the Baptist baptized? If so, where and when? If not, why not?
3. Where is Mary buried?
4. How many children did Mary have after Jesus was born?
5. At the Annunciation, Mary said “yes” to God, “I am the handmaid of the Lord. Let it be done unto me according to thy word.” How does the “fiat” reflect Mary’s entire life?
6. How old was Mary at the time of the Annunciation? And was she exactly the same person afterwards as she was before?
7. In Jesus, God became small, defenseless, and vulnerable while dwelling within the Virgin Mary’s womb. The all-powerful God who is dependent upon no one chose to be dependent upon Mary in the work of salvation. How does Mary’s experience of carrying Jesus in the womb apply to Catholics who have received the Sacrament of Confirmation?
8. The angel announced to Mary that she would conceive by the power of the Holy Spirit. Where did/does the body of Jesus come from? What does He look like? Whose face does He have?
9. Jesus is both fully man and fully God, but Mary, His mother, is not God. Therefore, true or false – Mary is mother only of that human part of Jesus?
10. Mary is “full of grace.” Did the grace conferred upon Mary deprive her of free will, could she have declined when the angel told her that Jesus, the Son of God, would be born to her?
11. The crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus occurred nearly 50 years after Mary was conceived in the womb of her mother, St. Anne. Therefore, true or false, the crucifixion/resurrection could not possibly have had any effect on the conception of Mary?
12. On multiple occasions in the Gospel, Jesus refers to Mary as simply “Woman.” Was Jesus being disrespectful in calling His mother “Woman”?
13. Jesus, being God, is all-powerful. Therefore, true or false – with respect to Mary, Jesus is not bound by the Fourth Commandment to honor your mother and father?
14. Why and how is Mary “our mother”?
15. The Catholic Church is specially devoted to Mary. True or false – Catholics worship Mary and pray to her in the same way that one prays to God?
